Postmaster Generals: Letter from Home
Postmaster Generals is a band that has performed publicly as The Banded Collar Boys and the Happy Underwear
Guys, but never as Postmaster Generals.
We've just recorded a CD called "Proper Things", which you should purchase now. "Proper Things" includes 11 tracks comprising about 25 minutes of music. So the arrangements are
sparse and to-the-point. There's not a single
wasted note.
Musically, you'll hear guitar, banjo and mandolin. The lyrical material ranges from
some bluegrassy songs, to some Christmas songs, to some children's songs. Our signature tune is called
"Postmaster", so-named because it takes its lyrical content from a letter written by HD's great-grandfather, the
postmaster of a small town in Tennessee, to his brother who was off in France fighting World War I. That's the
first track on "Proper Things". It partly tells the story of how brother Eugene wanted to plant wheat, but
Father thought ... well, to find out what Father thought was the 'proper thing to sow' you'll just have to buy the CD.
The liner notes include excerpts from that letter, plus a recipe for peanut butter
pie written by HD's downhill neighbor, who is the food columnist for the Old West Side News in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The CD itself will not stick to the roof of your mouth.
You might want to watch a music video for "Christmas in Washtenaw" (another track on the CD")
before deciding to purchase "Proper Things". If you want to own a complete collection
of all the music of Michigan, you'll need to buy "Proper Things".
Cheers,
the Generals
